Dennis is known for the Cape Playhouse, America's oldest professional summer theater, established in 1927, and for having some of the Cape's finest bay-side beaches. Scargo Lake and Scargo Tower offer panoramic views across the Mid Cape. Dennis Port has a more casual, traditional beach-town character.
Catch a show at Cape Playhouse, climb Scargo Tower for a 360-degree view, and swim at Corporation Beach, one of the Cape's best bay beaches for sunsets. Sesuit Harbor has fishing boats and a classic lobster pound. The Cape Cod Museum of Art is in Dennis Village, free on certain days.
Dennis has excellent dining across its villages. Red Cottage Restaurant in Dennis Port is a beloved no-frills breakfast spot. Marshside Restaurant has been a local favorite for decades. Gina's by the Sea is a charming Italian option. Sesuit Harbor Café offers fresh lobster rolls and fish right at the working harbor.
Dennis is wonderful for families. Corporation Beach and Mayflower Beach on the bay side have warm, calm waters perfect for children. Scargo Tower is a fun quick climb for kids. Cape Playhouse runs youth theater programs and family productions in summer. The lake and harbor areas offer paddleboating and gentle kayaking.
July and August for beaches and Cape Playhouse performances, book ahead for the theater. June offers a gentler pace with everything open but far fewer crowds. Autumn is particularly atmospheric in Dennis Village along Route 6A, with foliage, lower accommodation rates, and a quiet charm that summer visitors miss.
