Harwich is known for its cranberry bogs, among the Cape's most productive, and its annual Cranberry Festival each September. The town has a strong fishing heritage centred on Wychmere Harbour, excellent freshwater and ocean beaches, and a quieter, residential character that appeals to returning visitors and families.

Walk Wychmere and Saquatucket Harbours to watch fishing boats come in, visit cranberry bogs during harvest season, and swim at Red River Beach, a broad south-facing ocean beach. Brooks Academy Museum covers local history. The Cape Cod Rail Trail runs through Harwich with great cycling to Chatham and Orleans.

Harwich has a good mix of casual and waterfront dining. Brax Landing at Saquatucket Harbour is a favourite for fresh seafood and harbour views. Ember Coal Fire Bistro in Harwich Port is popular for wood-fired cooking. Wicked Dennis Brewing has become a local favourite for craft beer and laid-back food.

Harwich is an excellent family destination. Red River Beach has wide stretches of sand and manageable surf. Freshwater ponds like Long Pond and Hinckley Pond are calm and ideal for children. The Rail Trail through Harwich is flat and safe for family cycling. The Cranberry Festival in September has family-friendly activities.

Summer is peak beach season, particularly mid-July through August. The Cranberry Festival in September is one of the Cape's best events and coincides with a beautiful time of year. October is underrated, bogs turn brilliant red during harvest and the town is peaceful with a striking autumn character.
