Eastham is the primary entry point to Cape Cod National Seashore and is known for spectacular, undeveloped Atlantic beaches including Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Light Beach. It's one of the Cape's most naturally beautiful towns, with freshwater kettle ponds, salt marshes, and the iconic red-striped Nauset Light lighthouse.
Visit the Salt Pond Visitor Center for National Seashore maps and ranger programmes, then swim at Coast Guard Beach or Nauset Light Beach. Cycle the National Seashore Bike Trail, kayak Salt Pond or Fort Hill marsh, and climb the windmill on the town green. Sunset at Fort Hill is one of the Cape's finest views.
Eastham keeps things simple and reliable for dining. The Friendly Fisherman is a no-nonsense seafood market and eatery beloved for lobster rolls. Hole in One is the go-to breakfast and lunch spot, often packed in summer. Willy's Gym café area and Rock Harbor Grill in nearby Orleans are popular with Eastham visitors too.
Eastham is outstanding for families who love the outdoors. Coast Guard Beach is broad, beautiful, and one of America's great family beaches. The National Seashore Bike Trail is flat and safe for children. Ranger-led programmes at Salt Pond are free and educational. Kettle ponds like Great Pond are calm and ideal for young swimmers.
Late June and July are ideal, the National Seashore is at its best and the Salt Pond Visitor Center has full programming. August is the busiest month; beach shuttles are necessary as parking fills by 9am. September is superb: smaller crowds, warm ocean, and the seashore takes on an almost ethereal quality in the autumn light.
