Cape Cod is most famous for its extraordinary beaches, particularly the wild Atlantic-facing shores of the National Seashore in Eastham, Wellfleet, and Truro. It's also celebrated for its iconic candy-striped lighthouses, whale watching from Provincetown, fresh lobster, and a rich maritime and artistic heritage stretching back centuries.

The Cape's highlights include swimming at the National Seashore beaches, whale watching from Provincetown, cycling the Cape Cod Rail Trail, visiting historic lighthouses like Highland and Nauset, kayaking tidal creeks and salt marshes, and exploring the arts galleries of Provincetown and Wellfleet. Every town has its own distinct character worth discovering.

Cape Cod is excellent for families. Bay-side beaches are calm and warm for young children, while the National Seashore attracts older kids and surfers. Whale watching is a highlight for all ages. Nickerson State Park offers camping, cycling, and pond swimming. There are also mini-golf, ice cream trails, and family-run attractions throughout.

The Cape offers a vast range of outdoor activities: ocean and bay swimming, surfing at Nauset and Marconi beaches, cycling the 25-mile Rail Trail, sea kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing from charter boats or the shore, whale and dolphin watching, birdwatching in National Seashore refuges, and hiking dune trails in Truro and Provincetown.

Three to five days is enough to cover the highlights, a couple of days on the Outer Cape, a day in Chatham or Brewster, and time in one or two other towns. A full week allows you to explore each region at a relaxed pace, revisit favourite beaches, and get a true feel for the Cape's distinct character.
